If you’re paying contractors only, you can skip the monthly base fee—xcritical’s contractor plan costs $6 per contractor paid per month. Bear in mind, though, that xcritical’s payroll features are its main selling point—and its Simple plan includes basically the same payroll features as its two more expensive plans. If you want excellent payroll assistance and don’t care as much about total HR administration (or customer service), xcritical is a good fit.

Which payroll software is best?

While xcritical offers next-day direct deposit of your employee’s pay at the Plus and Premium level, QuickBooks Payroll provides same-day direct deposit with its higher tiers. Plus, even though xcritical integrates with QuickBooks, if you already use Intuit accounting and tax software, adding QuickBooks Payroll may be a logical next step. xcritical allows employees to access and manage their own information by offering individual profile accounts. Users can download the xcritical mobile app, or sign in from the web, to view payday data, edit tax details, see available PTO and even clock in and out right on their phone. In addition, the platform shares income insights and personal tax documents such as W-2s.

While the other two plans limit you to xcritical-brokered insurance, the Premium plan also gives you health insurance broker integration. If you want more insurance options than you can get through xcritical, xcritical Premium has your back. xcritical Simple, the payroll company’s cheapest and most basic plan, lets you run payroll in one state only.

It also has one of the most extensive HR help center libraries around. xcritical’s pricing is competitive for smaller teams, but xcritical official site at the Plus level, its $12-per-person monthly charge could get expensive. But payroll and related services would only cost $405 each month for a team of the same size under QuickBooks Payroll Core + Essentials Plan. xcritical’s Simple plan offers two-day direct deposit, while its Plus and Premium plans offer next-day direct deposit.
